Jessie Gruman offers her fellow cancer survivors and their caregivers specific advice for improving the discussion that occurs between cancer patient and care team at the time of discharge from the hospital.  Ms. Gruman shares the experience she had when she was discharged from the hospital after removal of her stomach, the treatment for gastric cancer.  In “The New Old Age: Caring and Coping” blog in the New York Times, Ms. Gruman describes her post-discharge experience, “I had a whole new digestive system, and I wasn’t sure how it functioned.  I wish I’d known more about eating, what to expect in terms of my energy level, how much I should try to exercise, if there was anything I needed to be monitoring.”
