Rain, Cancer Survivor: “The ACA saved my life.”
Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, I was not in the latter category. Just 15 months prior, I had enrolled in an Anthem Blue Cross ACA health plan. I had eagerly anticipated the rollout of the ACA, as it allowed me to start my own business—a psychotherapy practice—in late 2013. I had previously been denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions, and would not have been able to go into private practice without this landmark legislation.
Although I was a big supporter of the ACA all along, I didn’t realize what great coverage I had until it came time to use it. From March through December 2015, I received top-notch cancer treatment at UCSF, a renowned medical research facility. Over and over again, throughout that grueling year, I took solace in the fact that I had the best care I could have hoped for. I had no difficulty with my claims—no battles with the insurance company. I felt, and continue to feel, profound gratitude to those who helped ensure that I, and all Americans, had access to quality, affordable health care.
Please be one of those people, and fight to maintain universal access to quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans. Defend Obamacare!
