Negotiating

Negotiating allows you to talk with people involved in your healthcare (and other parts of your life!) so that you can get what you need to have the best quality of life possible. Tips for effectively negotiating include:

  • Listen and communicate effectively
  • Identify the values that are the principles and standards by which you live
  • Set your personal limits -- the boundaries of behavior that you will not cross
  • Learn to set emotions aside when negotiating
  • Visualize more than one solution to any problem.

Brush up on your skills by listening to the Cancer Survival Toolbox module on Negotiating.
