NBCC Advocacy Training Scholarship


Want to get more involved in cancer advocacy, but not sure where to start? You can learn the ins and outs of how to take action at the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund's 2010 Advocacy Training Conference. This year NCCS is pleased to announce a scholarship program for qualified advocates to attend this incredible conference, held in Washington, DC, May 22 - 25, 2010.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants with a demonstrated financial need who, otherwise, would be unable to participate in the Annual Advocacy Training Conference.
  • Applicants who can demonstrate that they will put advocacy skills developed and expanded at the NBCC training to use in their communities in support of raising awareness and advocating for comprehensive cancer care planning and the Comprehensive Cancer Care Improvement Act.


Application Requirements:

  • Applicants must fully complete the Scholarship Application Form and submit it to NCCS by April 2, 2010 by 5:00 PM EST.
  • Commit to serving on a virtual focus group to test NCCS advocacy training webinars.
  • Commit to organizing an advocacy activity in your community to support cancer care planning and the Comprehensive Cancer Care Improvement Act (S. 1773/H.R. 1844).


The Scholarship will cover three hotel nights and the conference registration fee as follows:

  1. Registration Fee - Includes: Conference training manual & handouts, breakfast on Sunday and Monday, lunch on Monday, snack breaks, Conference Reception, and transportation to Lobby Day on Capitol Hill.
  2. Lodging at the Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel - The scholarship can provide up to three hotel nights at the hotel.

Application Essay Questions

Please respond to the following questions, using a minimum of 150 words for each question. It is highly recommended that you draft your answers in a separate document to ensure your work is not lost.

*1. Please describe your involvement in cancer advocacy.

 


*2. We are requiring scholarship awardees to put their knowledge into action. After the conference, we will ask you to submit an action plan for an advocacy event or campaign in your community in support of cancer care planning and the Comprehensive Cancer Care Improvement Act (S. 1773/H.R. 1844). Events might include such things as organizing visits to House and Senate district offices, organizing a discussion and letter-writing event, or developing a viral campaign to increase action.

Please explain why you want to support care planning in your community and the direction you are thinking of taking to start your advocacy.
