Sharing Cancer Info May Be Empowering

Two genes are responsible for the majority of inherited breast and ovarian cancer cases, and tests can show if a woman has those genes. A new study shows that parents who reveal the results of genetic tests to their children are more satisfied with their decision than those who keep the results a secret.

According to the HealthDay article, "Sharing Cancer Info May Be Empowering," May 15, 2009, there are many benefits to sharing this information with children, including a more open child-parent relationship and the promotion of positive health habits early on.
