Progress But No Cure Reported at Major Cancer Conference

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) president reported that researchers are getting closer to their goal of offering patients gentler, more tailored treatments that let them live longer and more comfortably. According to a recent USA Today article "Progress but no cure reported at major cancer conference," there are still no cures for cancer, and some high-profile drugs bought only a few more months of life for patients.

NCCS Acting President & CEO, Ellen Stovall, who attended ASCO's annual meeting this year was quoted in the article:

"We're not anywhere near where patients would like to be. In the scientific community, things may look like breakthroughs. But they're really viewed much more soberly by patients."
