NCCS joins national health and disability groups in support of Affordable Care Act

NCCS joined 13 other leading national health and disability organizations to submit to the Supreme Court an amicus brief supporting the minimum coverage provision of the Affordable Care Act. In the “friend of the Court” brief, NCCS and its colleagues argued that the minimum coverage provision of the law, or individual mandate, falls within the authority of Congress to regulate interstate commerce and is constitutional.

NCCS applauds establishment of cancer treatment planning and care coordination reimbursement codes

January 12, 2012

NCCS commends the action of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in establishing two new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes for cancer treatment planning and care coordination. The codes, for treatment planning and care coordination for initial treatment and a change of treatment regimen, will go into effect on April 1, 2012.

Bill calling for written care plans for cancer patients introduced in Congress

A bill aimed at making the cancer patient an informed and active participant in his or her own care was introduced in Congress on December 16th by Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA) and Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA).

NCCS Comments on Essential Health Benefits

NCCS has filed comments with the Secretary of Health and Human Services offering our advice on planned rules defining essential health benefits (EHB) under the Affordable Care Act. We have recommended that EHB should regard cancer as a chronic disease and that those diagnosed with cancer should receive care planning and coordination services.
