This program is designed to help underinsured or uninsured people who are having difficulty finding and getting the care that they need. It provides survivor-focused stories of people dealing with:

• Getting treatment while they do not have insurance,
• Being insured through Medicare, Medicaid, or the VA,
• Using viatical settlements as a way to pay for care,
• Paying for medical care that isn’t covered by insurance,
• Finding prescription assistance, and
• Getting insurance after treatment is over

Tips for the provider to keep in mind:

• No matter what kind of cancer, no matter what the problems, costs of care must not be allowed to get in the way of getting good cancer care.
• Patients need to be aware of the cost of treatment before beginning treatment.
• The examples provided by the cancer survivors you meet in this program provide ideas about how and where to look for help, and what sort of help one could expect to find.
• The Resource Booklet that comes with the Toolbox provides additional resources for finding financial assistance.
