What Is Cancerversary?

Cancerversary FAQ

Cancerversary.org is a community that connects cancer survivors and their family members, caregivers and friends by sharing a common yet distinctive experience: living with, through and beyond cancer. We’ve provided this forum for you to tell your survivorship story or commemorate someone else's experience.

Many survivors commemorate a significant date or time from their cancer journey– even if they don’t have a name for it. This might be a celebration or a time of quiet reflection, but it’s always about survivorship. On this site you can share how you acknowledge this important event.

With nearly 12 million cancer survivors living in the U.S., virtually everyone is affected by cancer in some way. It’s important that we share our stories, talk about what survivorship means to us, and offer support to others so people affected by cancer know they’re not alone and that there is hope.

What's your cancerversary?

Everyone’s cancer experience is different, and cancerversaries can be recognized in many different ways. Your cancerversary can be:

  • A date, month or time of year of diagnosis
  • When treatment ended or is expected to end
  • The date of a transplant
  • A surgery date, which could be the first biopsy or when the margins were clear
  • The date a loved one passed away
  • The number of months or years since being declared cancer- free
  • The day you learned what a cancerversary is
  • The day you decided to use your experience to make a difference for others
  • Any date or period of time that holds significance for you

Now we’re asking you to share your experience. Use this forum to put your experience with cancer into your own words, whether you’re a cancer survivor or loved one, a caregiver or healthcare professional. What does survivorship mean to you? How do you commemorate your cancerversary each year? What do you want to share about your cancer experience? Once you’ve told your story you can regularly update your page, and you can ask your friends and family to comment – and visit often!
