Cancer: Keys to Survivorship

Education — and the power and skill to use it — are the most important tools that a cancer survivor can have. That's why NCCS teamed up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to bring you Cancer: Keys to Survivorship.

Cancer: Keys to Survivorship is a free program that teaches cancer survivors, family members, friends, caregivers, and health professionals the important skills to help live with, beyond and through cancer. You also can view three Cancer: Keys to Survivorship programs via the below webcasts!

 

The four basic modules to the Cancer: Keys to Survivorship program are:

Communicating with your Health Care Practitioner and Strategies for Self Advocacy

  • Explore various aspects of the patient-provider relationship
  • Discuss the challenges of communicating with health care professionals
  • Acquire tools for becoming a better communicator
  • Learn about survivorship, its various stages and how to use this knowledge to become an effective self-advocate

 

Fighting Fatigue

  • Learn strategies to communicate effectively with your health care provider about your concerns such as pain and fatigue
  • Discuss how attitudes and beliefs affect the cancer survivorship experience
  • Explore healthy ways of experiencing disease and taking action

 

Working It Out: Your Employment Rights As A Cancer Survivor

  • Discuss employment issues faced by cancer survivors
  • Learn to identify illegal cancer-based discrimination, ways to avoid it, and actions to take if it occurs
  • Learn about national and local resources you can use to get information and help you resolve employment issues

 

What Cancer Survivors Need to Know About Health Insurance

  • Learn about federal and state health insurance regulations and how to obtain and collect health insurance benefits
  • Discuss the different types of insurance coverage available, including coverage for clinical trials
  • Learn about national and local resources to use to find out more about health insurance
