2008 Rays of Hope™ Gala


The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) held the annual Rays of Hope Awards Gala on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. This year, the gala theme was "Hope", recognizing the right of cancer survivors to be hopeful. NCCS recognized several individuals and organizations that are champions in the cancer community, providing hope and inspiration to cancer survivors.

The evening’s award recipients included the Entertainment Industry Foundation, The Boston Red Sox Organization, Mike Burg of Edge Marketing and Management, and Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer. Dan Abrams, chief legal correspondent for NBC News, and ABC News correspondent Sam Donaldson and his wife, Jan Smith Donaldson, were the masters of ceremonies. Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Lilly Tartikoff, Dick and Jean Thompson, The Honorable Ken Bentsen and Tamra Bentsen, and Mary Margaret Valenti served as gala chairs. Additional guests included Ted Danson, Lance Armstrong, Rep. Lois Capps, Senator Edward M. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy, Jr.
